Last November, a solar installation was carried out at the Gran Canaria Arena, capable of covering its entire electricity consumption, and for this, our Landblock ballasted solar supports were used.

The Gran Canaria Arena
The Gran Canaria Arena is a sports pavilion located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain). Since 2014, it has been home to the Gran Canaria Basketball Club, and since 2022, also to the Islas Canarias Basketball Club.
This venue has also hosted the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup as well as the final stages of the Spanish King’s Cup Basketball Tournament in 2015 and 2018.
The project was carried out by the Island Council for Energy (CIEGC in Spanish) in collaboration with the Island Sports Institute, and executed by Canaragua, with the goal of promoting renewable energy.
Size and Capacity
The photovoltaic plant has a capacity of 770 kWp, using 1,584 modules with a peak power of 860 kWp and seven 110-kilowatt inverters, generating 1,375,588 kilowatt annually. According to CIEGC engineer Celso Rodríguez, the arena’s annual consumption is estimated at 1,198,774 kilowatt, meaning that the installation will cover 115% of the yearly demand.
In addition, the Siete Palmas Sports Complex will benefit from the surplus energy thanks to 1.8 MWh of storage installed by the Island Council, which will cover 55% of the electricity supply for the overall facilities.
Landblock
As you can see in the video published by the Diario de Noticias de Gran Canaria, this installation used our Landblock ballasted solar supports with a 15º tilt.
Although our supports can be efficiently ballasted with water, in this case gravel bags were chosen instead.
