Success Stories: Floating Solar Installation on a slurry pond in Zamora

In collaboration with Intergia, we have carried out a floating photovoltaic installation on a slurry lagoon at the El Chano Pork pig farm in Calzada de Tera (Zamora, Spain).
This project is part of the #FOTOPUR project and Operational Group, aimed at developing innovative solutions to reduce emissions in livestock farms.

With a total capacity of 30.8 kWp distributed across 56 solar panels, this installation represents an important step forward in the integration of floating solar energy in agricultural and livestock environments, combining technical innovation, safety, and environmental sustainability.

This project is part of a pioneering initiative designed to reduce emissions and make use of underutilised surfaces for clean energy generation.
Unlike irrigation ponds or traditional reservoirs, a slurry lagoon presents a corrosive and biologically active environment, which required specially adapted materials and design.

Our Lamaru® system, extensively tested in water-based installations, was adapted to withstand the ammonia-rich conditions of the lagoon by incorporating extra components, ensuring long-term durability and reliability.

Custom design: safety and structural stability

One of the most remarkable features of this installation is the inclusion of exclusive perimeter handrails, developed specifically for this project. These handrails surround both the platform and the access walkway, providing complete protection against the risk of falling into the pond—an essential element in this kind of environment.

To further enhance structural stability, an additional float was incorporated for each panel, increasing from the standard two main floats to three floats per module. This modification allows each panel to be more firmly supported, improving the rigidity of the structure and its behaviour under varying liquid levels and movement.

The 13.5 x 25-metre platform dynamically adapts to changes in the pond’s level, maintaining stability and proper mooring tension even during filling or emptying. The flexible floating walkway ensures safe and convenient access for maintenance, regardless of liquid level.

Advantages of the Lamaru® System

  1. Modular and stackable design, enabling easy transport and assembly.

  2. Efficient installation, with row-by-row assembly directly from the shore.

  3. Resistance to corrosive environments, thanks to carefully selected materials.

  4. Seamless integration with existing electrical systems, maximizing self-consumption.

  5. Enhanced safety, with customized railings and protected access points.

Impact and Results

In addition to generating clean energy for the farm’s self-consumption, this installation directly contributes to reducing emissions by partially covering the pond’s surface, helping decrease the release of gases into the atmosphere. This case demonstrates the versatility of the Lamaru® system and its ability to adapt to non-conventional settings while maintaining the safety, durability, and efficiency standards that define our solutions.

At Landatu Solar, we believe every installation is an opportunity to innovate. This project in Zamora reflects our commitment to developing sustainable and adaptable technologies capable of responding to the real challenges of the agricultural and livestock sectors.
