Success stories: floating solar installation in Gizaburuaga

Another Success Story! On December 22nd we carried out a floating solar installation using our Lamaru supports on a pond in Gizaburuaga (Bizkaia).

Landatu Solar was founded with the vision of building floating installations at sea, that is and will always be the core of our company. Reaching the ocean is no easy task, and although we still have a long way to go, we couldn’t be happier with these smaller floating projects, as they represent the first steps toward achieving our main goal.

Here’s why and how this installation in Gizaburuaga was carried out:

Gizaburuaga (Bizkaia)

As mentioned, the installation took place on a pond in Gizaburuaga, a municipality in the province of Bizkaia. The goal was to supply energy to the greenhouses of  Barrenetxe, a cooperative of professional farmers.

For this purpose, the floating structure has a capacity of 30.8kWp, using 56 panels of 550W each, divided into 8 rows of 7 panels.

Assembly

Thanks to the design of our Lamaru floating solar supports and our patented Landmoore software, the installation was quick and easy.

First, in the launch area (next to the pond), the team assembled the structure of the first row (maintenance walkways and cells) in order to install the solar panels (see first image below). With our supports, this step can be done in two ways: on a worktable or directly on the ground. The choice depends on the smoothness of the surface being used. On flat surfaces, the ideal approach is to assemble the panels on a flat table first and then place them on the ground (see second image below). However, when the surface is sloped or uneven (as was the case in this project), the best option is to mount the panels directly on the structure on the ground.

Once the panels were properly secured to the structure, the next step was to connect them electrically. When everything was ready, the installation was launched into the pond. Of course, the pond had been moored in advance, as can be seen in the photo below.

Anchoring System

Finally, with the structure already on the water and the anchoring posts prepared, the last step was to connect the solar plant with cables and drop the ballasts, following the guidance provided by our Landmoore software. In the bottom photo, you can see the worker about to drop the ballast into the water—this being the final step before fine-tuning the electrical system.
